Syrskyi: Ukraine is building a layered defence system against Shahed and Geran drones

Ukraine is building a layered defence system against enemy Shahed-type strike drones, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi said following a meeting on the development of this segment of air defence. According to him, the top priority in countering kamikaze drones will be to create more crews, train interceptor operators, and provide them with effective detection and strike capabilities.

“Our common task is to form more such crews, to train more interceptor operators, and to equip them with more effective strike systems and radars,” he wrote. Following the meeting, Syrskyi instructed to address shortcomings and to step up efforts in the area of interceptor drones.

Recently, Defender Media spoke with the Odesa-based team Technary about the challenges of intercepting Russian drones and possible solutions. Their vision is to produce reusable drones capable of engaging more than one target per flight.

Among the latest known interceptor developments is the Sting drone from the Wild Hornets, which can accelerate to over 315 km/h and pursue Shaheds at sufficient altitude. In addition, at a recent exhibition in Turkey, RC Direction teams presented their interceptor variants, alongside the Cetus-X and Chaklun-B 2.0 drones.

It is also worth noting that in August it became known that the developer MaXon had raised $300,000 to develop an autonomous air-to-air defence system, designed to protect large cities from Shaheds and their modifications.
