Fulltime Robotics unveils SlimBeam laser system to counter FPV drones

Ukrainian defence tech company Fulltime Robotics has showcased a prototype of its portable laser system, SlimBeam, at the IRON DEMO 2025 exhibition. The device is intended for use against hostile FPV drones and optical systems, according to Oboronka.

The SlimBeam system has a power output of 1.5 kW and can engage targets at distances of up to one kilometre. It also features a blinding mode aimed at disrupting the optics of both unmanned aerial vehicles and stationary surveillance systems, with an effective range of up to two kilometres in this mode.

Developers say SlimBeam is among the lightest systems of its power class globally, weighing just under 50 kilograms. The unit is designed to be deployed on fixed positions or integrated with ground-based robotic platforms.

The current version is primarily intended to counter small drones, particularly FPV models. Trials are ongoing, with tests so far limited to static targets. Manual tracking remains a challenge, as the laser must remain fixed on a target for 5 to 15 seconds to be effective. Automatic tracking is still under development.

The company is also working on an infantry version of SlimBeam in the form of a handheld laser rifle.

As previously reported, IRON DEMO also featured the presentation of the Karakurt UGV, capable of carrying and remotely launching up to six FPV drones, along with an auto-guidance module for drone control.
