The Ministry of Defence codified the “Khyzhak” combat module

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has codified and approved for operation in the Armed Forces of Ukraine the domestically produced remotely controlled combat module “Khyzhak”. Defender Media shares what is known about it.

The combat module “Khyzhak” can be used either in a stationary position or mounted on a mobile platform. The 7.62 mm machine guns installed on it can be fitted with either Soviet-style or NATO-standard ammunition. The module is capable of firing at close combat ranges, tracking and engaging both ground and aerial targets. The platform’s stabilisation allows for accurate fire even while in motion.

The first experimental batch of “Khyzhaks” was delivered to the Defence Forces in autumn 2024. At that time, the developer reported the module’s capability to neutralise FPV drones at distances ranging from 50 to 220 metres, and target recognition at up to 250 metres, owing to its artificial intelligence system.

Plans for further development included the integration of a goniometer and a rangefinder for automatic lead calculation.In addition, it was reported that the “Khyzhak” is equipped with a long-focus lens and a thermal imaging camera manufactured by the Ukrainian company Oko Camera.

While the developers of the ‘Khyzhak’ are not officially named, it is known that the same engineering team was behind the NRK ‘Lyut’. It is presumed that this refers to a participant in the Brave1 cluster, the DONS startup, which was among the top three winners of the NATO hackathon in June.
