Ukrainian developer of tactical communications systems, HIMERA, has closed a seed investment round exceeding $2.5 million. This was confirmed to Defender Media by the company\u2019s co-founder and CEO, Misha Rudominsky. The round was backed by UA1 VC, Varangians, Green Flag Ventures, Freedom Fund, as well as several other investment firms and funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The total amount of capital raised by the project to date is around $3.2 million. According to Rudominsky, the company began raising its seed round about a year ago, but during the process, it decided to increase the target amount to support a new vision that had matured within the team and resonated with investors. Defender Media discussed this vision with Rudominsky, as well as with his investors William McNulty of UA1, Par Lager of Varangians, and Deborah Fairlamb of Green Flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the new vision<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Rudominsky says that at the outset, the team focused on a specific niche problem \u2014 tactical communications between military units for voice and data transmission in combat conditions. Over the past year, however, the company\u2019s vision has expanded significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe realised that tactical communications are only one part of a much bigger challenge: building the architecture of future warfare and defence, where automation and real-time data transmission are critical,\u201d he explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Rudominsky, the core issue is that this is currently impossible because existing communication systems are fragmented. Soldiers use one set of channels for voice communications, situational awareness systems such as Delta and Kropyva operate via others, UAVs rely on a third set, and ground robotic systems on yet another. This creates a \u2018zoo\u2019 of communication systems that are difficult to integrate, resulting in a major interoperability problem for the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The architecture of such a solution is still taking shape, Rudominsky \u0443\u0442\u043e\u0447\u043d\u0438\u0432. At the same time, the company continues working on deploying its tactical communications systems within Ukraine\u2019s Security and Defence Forces and on expanding international cooperation. The CEO noted that several brigades within the Defence Forces have already decided to switch to HIMERA\u2019s tactical communications systems, though he declined to specify which ones. \u201cWe see proactive engagement and expect systemic adoption,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rudominsky declined to disclose the company\u2019s current sales volumes, but noted that HIMERA is demonstrating growth in line with the expectations of both the team and investors. He added that revenue is becoming more diversified as the company expands its product portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What investors say<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Investors believe in HIMERA<\/a> because the company\u2019s solutions are already combat-proven and competitive in terms of both quality and price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Par Lager, co-founder and CEO of Varangians<\/a>, HIMERA addresses one of the most critical challenges of modern warfare \u2014 secure and resilient battlefield communications under intense electronic warfare conditions. \u201cWe have followed the team for a long time and love their ambition, how they work and how they create results,\u201d Lager emphasised. He added that the company\u2019s developments are crucial not only for Ukraine\u2019s Armed Forces, but also for re-arming Europe with modern, smart and cost-efficient solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

William McNulty, co-founder of UA1<\/a>, says his fund invests in technologies whose effectiveness has already been proven on the battlefield. \u201cHIMERA\u2019s communication ecosystem \u2014 engineered to resist jamming, interception, and disruption \u2014 exemplifies the kind of real-world innovation that will define next-generation emergency response and defence capabilities,\u201d he said. \u201cAt the same time, it directly addresses modern warfare demand for more affordable, attritable systems that require significantly less training for end users without compromising operational effectiveness and security.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green Flag Ventures<\/a> is pleased to have increased its position in HIMERA during the last round, says Deborah Fairlamb, Founding Partner of the fund. “This latest investment reflects our continued confidence in HIMERA for the long term and recognises the progress they have made as a standalone product, and with their ongoing work for integration into other platforms in the ecosystem,” she adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
