Ukrainian manufacturer of unmanned ground systems Ratel Robotics has completed the full testing cycle of its new logistics UGV, Ratel X, which the company first presented <\/a>in November. The founder of the company, Taras Ostapchuk, spoke with Defender Media about the key characteristics of the model and plans for further improving the UGV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ostapchuk, the platform confirmed its stated key characteristics: a range of up to 120 km with a 400 kg payload, 42 cm of ground clearance, a speed of 18 km\/h under load, and six independent wheels that ensure stability on uneven terrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Serial production is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2026. The team is currently finalising an electronic differential expected to enhance the platform’s mobility and off-road performance in challenging conditions. The company also plans to reinforce the UGV with Class 2 polyethene armour plates \u2014 according to Ostapchuk, this will protect the drone from shrapnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ratel X is currently undergoing the codification procedure. The company aims to complete this process before serial production begins. The model will become the fifth codified UGV in the manufacturer\u2019s line-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, Ostapchuk said that the Ratel X is an entirely new platform developed based on frontline experience with previous models and direct requests from military units. One of its defining design features is a lower profile, which reduces visibility and improves stability. Increased ground clearance enables the platform to navigate through debris, trenches, and various soil types. Light armour protects key components from shrapnel and improves survivability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, during a panel discussion at the\u00a0Components of Freedom\u00a0conference hosted by the IRON cluster and the Snake Island Institute, representatives of military units noted that what they lack most are\u00a0low-visibility wheeled UGVs<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ratel<\/a> currently mass-produces several UGV models, including the small kamikaze robot Ratel S, the four-wheel logistics drone Ratel M, and the logistics-evacuation platform Ratel H.
